Don passed away peacefully after a brief but well-fought battle on November 1, 2018 at the age of 83. Loving and dedicated husband to Catherine (nee King), he exemplified the vows they took nearly 60 years ago, particularly to love her in sickness and in health, often selflessly acting as her healthcare advocate and rock.
Unbeatable dad to their four children, Jeff, Dave, Janie (Rick) and Susan (Richard), he instilled in them the values of unconditional love, hard work and good humour. Jackie, Dana, Bryan, Zoe, Fiona, Sean and Oscar will lovingly recall their grandfather for his warmth, curiosity, vast knowledge, and epic model trainset.
Don made a positive impact on countless kids in his community as well, having coached competitive hockey (Don Mills Flyers and Hillcrest Summits) and fastball (Don Victoria) for over 30 years. Several of his players even made it to the show, a source of great pride to him.
Don was an unforgettable character, and we take great comfort in the outpouring of love and touching stories received from the many people his life touched. Friends and family will be received at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E. (between Warden and Pharmacy) on Sunday, November 4, 2018 for visitation from 1 to 5 p.m. Funeral Service in the Chapel on Monday, November 5, at 1 p.m.

My uncle Donald was a funny guy with a quirky sense of humor and tremendous talent! It was awe inspiring to view his "epic" train "creation" in his basement when we would visit. He was so proud and yet humble of his obvious talent. What ever he set his mind to do he always found a way to work it out. He was totally devoted to my aunt Cathy and loved his children like no other. For now, we will miss you, but I know we will meet again where your true talent will flourish forever!
My love and sincere sympathy to Auntie Cathy, David, Janie and Susan at this time.
Your cousin Kathy

Don, from humble beginnings to a humble end, you did a wonderful job, in partnership with Cathy, but usually in your fashion. Your devotion is incredible and stability admired, and as your son-in-law you showed me an exemplary way with some good advise along the way. You will be missed by your loving and extended families and please keep that sense of pride and humour within you as you navigate your next journey. Love and Respect, Rick

Jeff, Dave and Janie, no way to know how you feel. But you can know that your feelings are shared and felt by anyone who knew your dad. He left a mark on many of us from that time in our lives when we ran the bases or chased a puck.
