It is with great sadness that the family of Hugh James Canning announces his passing on Sunday, December 23rd, 2018, at the age of 88 years. A devoted husband and father, Hugh is lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Sylvia and his children Paul, Jeanette, Michael (Kim), Kenneth (Sue), Mary Louise and Maryanne. Hugh will also be fondly remembered by his 19 grandchildren and 33 great children, and by his sister, Marie (Frank) Armstrong and brother, Basil (Edna). Hugh was predeceased by his son, Joseph (Lorna), and his brothers, Rev. J. Bernard Canning and Edward (Helen).
Hugh will be remembered for his unwavering faith and commitment to Annunciation Parish and for his contribution as a former board chairman of Scarborough General Hospital.
Visitation at Paul O'Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave E. (between Warden and Pharmacy) from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Wednesday December 26th, 2018. A Funeral Mass in memory of Hugh will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday December 27th, in Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 3 Combermere Dr, North York. Internment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, 250 Old Main St. North, Newmarket with a reception to follow.
