HAASE, James Edward
January 2019

Haase, James Edward, Passed away suddenly on January 2, 2019. He was 68. Jim was a man that walked to the beat of his own drum... or guitar as it were. Born and Raised in Pennsylvania Jim was the third of 8 children. He loved to regale his family and friends with the adventurous stories of his youth. He was the type of man that never let a small interest not turn into an area of great study. From the smallest of micro minerals to the cosmos Jim could talk anyone’s ear off on almost any subject, getting into those conversations could be as daunting as they were enlightening. He loved hiking, canoeing, reading (voraciously), playing and listening to music, anything relating to politics, sports, and of course the daily crosswords. His passion for learning was eclipsed only by the love he had for his wife of 45 years Eva whom he had met on one of those adventures in Europe so many years ago. When they were young their adventures took them many places. Eventually, they settled in Toronto where they raised their family. Jim served in various capacities, including President, at The Walker Mineralogical Club. The friends he made while collecting, studying and discussing minerals meant the world to him and his family. For 36 years Jim worked at UCEL and Jim loved the puzzles his job provided. He enjoyed watching the young men, including his son-in-law Robert, come into the business and show a real desire to learn. He worked with and for his Brother-In-Law Les and was always grateful for his friendship. Jim is survived by his wife Eva, his children Anais Haase Zuniga (Juan Pablo), Colin Haase, Laura Heinrich (Robert). Jim is the grandfather to four beautiful girls Abigail, Reyna, Vivian and Rikki. We all loved him very much. Visitation at PAUL O'CONNOR FUNERAL HOME, 1939 Lawrence Ave.E (between Pharmacy and Warden) on Wednesday, January 9, 2018, from 3-5 pm & 7-9 pm. Funeral service in our Chapel on Thursday, January 10, 2018, at 1 pm. Reception to follow.
