Molly O’Keefe May 16, 1934-May 6, 2020 It is with great sadness that the family of Molly O’Keefe (nee O’Malley) announce that she passed away on May 6, 2020, shortly before her 86th birthday. After living with cancer for more than a year, Molly passed away at home with family by her side overlooking her beloved garden. As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend she showed us how to live life with dignity, empathy, humour and incredible strength of character. Beloved wife of the late Maurice, her husband of 55 years. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Tom, Wendy, Kathleen, Ann, Mark, Mo, Denise, Patricia and Jason. Devoted grandmother to Meagan, Quin, Malcolm, Mackenzie, Sean, Heather, Jameson, Paisley, Thomas and Benjamin. Molly will forever be remembered for her gentle nature, loyalty and generosity to all those whose lives she touched. She is survived by her sister Margaret, sister-in-laws Eileen, Mary, Anne and Marion, brother-in-law Ed, and her many nieces and nephews, and is predeceased by her siblings Isa, Arthur, Patsy and Billy. Born May 16, 1934 in Scotland, Molly grew up during the WWII era with strict rations and at one point was sent to live in the country to avoid bombing raids aimed at the shipyards in her hometown of Paisley. She worked in the famous Paisley thread mill before immigrating to Canada at age 20. In 1960, she went to a church dance where she met Maurice, who that same night told his brother that he had just met the woman he was going to marry. That May they picked out an engagement ring on Molly’s 26th birthday and married at St. Peter’s church in downtown Toronto on a sunny day at the end of November. Molly and Maurice purchased a home in Scarborough where they raised five children, four born within four calendar years, and would live for the remainder of their lives. Her home and heart were always open to all including the large extended group of friends who also grew up there - swimming in the pool and attending dinners and parties too numerous to count. A lover of large family vacations she was also an avid reader, enthusiastic theatregoer, a talented cook who always remembered the grandkids’ favourites, and a dedicated gardener. Throughout her life, Molly sowed seeds of kindness and nurtured them with love and happiness. Always more concerned for others than herself, in her final year she faced her illness with grace and courage, comforting those who were there to comfort her while maintaining her Scottish pragmatism and dry sense of humour bringing laughter to her bedside until the end. Molly will be sadly missed by her family, her adored neighbours of more than half a century and the many, many friends she made during her lifetime. She would be the first to provide a hug and to allow us to be sad but would then surely tell us to dry our tears, to carry on, to be kind and to look after one another. Her companionship will be deeply missed, her love and affection with us forever. The family would like to thank those who provided love and support, especially during her final days. We also wish to thank Nurse Maureen Naidu Saint Euzz and Doctor Dean Walters for her in-home care and the staff at Princess Margaret Hospital for their compassion, hard work and loving care. Due to the current health situation, a private family graveside service will take place with a Celebration of Life to be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations or lottery ticket support can be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation
