It is with sadness that the family of Ray Martens announce his passing on November 22, 2018, in Scarborough Hospital after a short illness at the age of 59. Ray was born on January 28, 1959, in Burns Lake, BC. He was adopted as an infant by Jake and Helen Martens. He grew up in Terrace and Abbotsford, BC and then later moved to Edmonton and finally to Toronto. He began working at Toronto’s Harbour Castle Hotel in 1988; this turned into a 30 year career as a bellman which Ray enjoyed very much. Ray married Teresita Armena in September of 1989. Ray is survived by his father and stepmother, Jake and Sarah Martens of Abbotsford, his brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Patti Martens of Saskatoon, his brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Ruth Martens of Vancouver, his roommate and dear friend, Bryan Lutz, by several nieces and nephews and his circle of friends and work colleagues. Ray was predeceased by his mother, Helena Martens, his sister Joy and his former wife, Terry. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Toronto Harbour Castle Hotel (Regatta Room) from 2-4 pm and at a future date in Abbotsford.
