TASKER, Shirley Rosemary
September 1930 - February 2019

b. September 26, 1930. On Friday February 22nd our beloved mother Shirley (nee Peacock) passed peacefully at East General Hospital, the very place where she was born and where her family were founding donors. Shirley was predeceased by our father Allan and our sisters Alana and Judi (Will Carlton). Shirley was blessed with a beautiful family and the list of those who will miss this loving and exceptionally generous soul is impressively long – her surviving children Patti (John Malone), Brian (Jen Verral), John, Maureen (Sean Norman); her 16 grandchildren Matthew, Benjamin, Alicia, Jake, Sam, Jesse, Kaitlyn, Michael, Joe, Natalie, Peter, Daniel, Hailey, Grace, Jeffery, Alana; and her 5 great grandchildren Angus, Ainslie, Halo, Fox and Maverick. Grandma Lola (as she was known to all her grandkids) never held a baby she couldn’t settle, would sing them nursery rhymes for hours and had the patience of a saint. When Shirley and Al retired in 1989 they embraced their snow bird status enthusiastically and spent half the year in Florida where they loved the people, the beach, the race track and the casino. Shirley’s final 4 years were spent at the Houses of Providence where she was cared for lovingly by caregivers Melchie and Ruby along with the fine staff and medical team. Anyone who ever met Shirley was left a better, richer person for the experience. Rest in peace Shirley Girlie. Visitation Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E, Saturday March 2, 9:30a – 10:30a. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure, 1300 Leslie St. at 11am. Interment immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill. Donations to the Family Council at Houses of Providence will help make day-to-day life more enjoyable for the many friends Shirley made there.
